The Count of Frontenac was a commanding officer under king Louis XIII. He is most famous as a pioneer, claiming various territories in North America for the France kingdom. Today, Château Frontenac is managed by the wine-maker Roger Mesange with a priority to make a classically styled Bordeaux. The 35-hectare estate is situated it the village of Pineuilh, the vines planted on hillsides overlooking the Dordogne river. These hillsides allow for maximum exposure to the sun, which is key to getting ripe grapes. The vines are on average 35 years old, and the soil consists of clay and limestone. This wine is in a classical Bordeaux style, and it is best consumed after 4 to 5 years of cellaring. The 40%/30%/30% grape blend means that it is also a rather complex wine. The nose shows a mix of forest fruits and also some earthy notes, the mouthfeel is firm and the finish is long. Alc.: 13,5%.
